How to measure parts.

Using a Digital Caliper

Follow these simple steps to get accurate measurements for your replacement parts. Correct measurements ensure your new component fits perfectly.

Step 1: Zero the Caliper

Before starting, close the caliper completely and press the zero button. This action calibrates the tool to ensure that all measurements taken will be accurate. A properly zeroed caliper is essential for precise measurements.

Step 2: Measure the Outer Diameter

To measure the outer diameter of a cylindrical part, open the caliper jaws and place them around the part. Ensure that the caliper is perpendicular to the surface of the part for an accurate reading. The measurement displayed on the digital screen is the outer diameter.

Step 3: Measure the Inner Diameter

For measuring the inner diameter, use the smaller jaws of the caliper. Insert the jaws into the opening of the part and expand them until they touch the inner walls. Again, ensure that the caliper is perpendicular to the surface for an accurate reading.

Step 4: Measure Depth

To measure the depth of a hole, use the depth probe located at the back of the caliper. Insert the probe into the hole until it reaches the bottom, and read the measurement displayed on the screen. This measurement is crucial for ensuring that components fit properly within the designated space.

Step 5: Record Your Measurements

After taking all necessary measurements, record them accurately. This documentation will assist in selecting the correct replacement parts, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
